One day. Six operations. Three kidneys. The story of an organ donor chain involving St George’s

November 12 2018
On the morning of the 13th September 2017, 6 people went into surgery to donate or receive a kidney. A year after their life-changing surgery, the Guardian newspaper brought together those 6 people in a kidney donor circle for the first time.

The collection of transplantations took place as part of the UK Living Kidney Sharing Scheme.

That included Ben Abbott and his father Steve, who were receiving and donating kidneys respectively at St George's hospital.

The chain spanned 3 hospitals and involved 6 teams of surgeons.
